Typhoon Haiyan an the Philippines made it back to the top of international headlines on Friday night (Saturday morning in the Philippines) with the sad news, announced on the  National Disaster National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council‘s website, that the  revised the death total from Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) is 5,235. The figure represents a jump of 1200 over the most recent number posted on Thursday, and is more than twice the amount estimated by President Benigno Aquino in his now-infamous interview with CNN’s Christian Amanpour, in which he downgraded government estimates from 10,000 to 2,300.

The new figures ahow that 23,501 were injured due to the epic storm, with 1,613 still reported missing. The missing amount is 31 higher than a day earlier.
