Manila Standard and Philboxing writing Ronnie Nathanielsz has taken steps to contain an upraor that ensued after Nathanielsz wrote an article in which he appeared to refer to Manny Pacquiao as the “former pound for pound king”. The article in question was about Manny Pacquiao sparring partner Glenn Tapia, who won his fight on the undercard of Saturday night’s Miguel Cotto – Antonio Margarito PPV event.

Nathanielsz wrote: “Former pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao’s sparring partner Glen Tapia…”, which led to an immediate reaction from Pacquiao supporters.

Today in an email to Philboxing, Nathanielsz clarified:

Perhaps the construction of my sentence was misleading since the title said “Ex-Pacquiao Sparring Partner” which clearly shows I meant that Glen Tapia was the former sparring partner, not that Pacquiao was the former pound for pound king, because I always refer to Manny as the Ring Magazine pound for pound king which he is.

Nathanielsz has since corrected the article to read:

“The former sparring partner of Ring Magazine’s pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao, Glen Tapia…
