The wheels are in motion for the Philippine Supreme Court, which is well-stocked by justice appointed by former President Gloria Arroyo, to declare Friday’s arrest of Arroyo unconstitutional and in so doing undo the arrest that has become a growing focus of local and international attention. Arroyo attorney Ferdinand Topacio said will file a supplemental petition with a “very urgent motion” whose purpose will be to the get the supreme court to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the DOJ-Comelec panel responsible for the filing of charges of electoral sabotage against Mrs. Arroyo. This is the committee tasked to investigate allegations of “Hello Garci” cheating in the 2004 elections, and additional cheating int he 2007 elections.

“We will reveal before the Supreme Court (SC) the irregularities committed against the Arroyos last Friday… in effect we are praying for the High Court to issue the TRO to negate the effects of the filing of the criminal charges and the warrant of arrest against the former president,” Topacio said.

Comment: Watching this from afar, it seems like the Arroyos had this pretty much figured out all along, and the ace up her sleeve is the Supreme Court which she seems to control. If this is the case, the likelihood of this prosecution getting anywhere is starting to look rather slim. Hoping I’m wrong.
