Avatar Moves Up to #2 All-Time, Giving Cameron a Lock on #1 and #2 All Time Box Office Winners with Titanic and Avatar
A day after surging past Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man’s Chest into third place all time global box office, James Cameron’s Avatar has moved up another notch, passing Lord of the Rings: Return of the King at $1.2B en route to landing at $1.12B en route to landing at 1.13B, alone in second place behind Titanic. This gives Cameron a lock on the number one and two spots, and now the remaining suspense is whether Avatar can run down Titanic — a movie which is several light years ahead of Avatar at 1.8B worldwide.
Meanwhile Avatar clocked $6,909,167 in domestic Box Office Gross, bringing its domestic total to $374,445,852 after twenty days in release. Titanic, at the 20 day mark, stood at $166M and it was February 16 before Titanic reached $374,445,852. It seems that Avatar should be able to catch Titanic at 600M domestic gross even if it does not. in the end, have to have quite the same type of phenomenal legs that Titanic did.
